Our History

Greenbrier Nurseries was started in 1956 as a landscape business by Jim and Alice Monroe. Their work ethic and high moral character are still hallmarks of our business. The container nursery was started in the fall of 1986 specializing in dwarf and unusual conifers and Japanese maples. Ten years later the property was purchased for the expansion of the container nursery onto the Lowell Farm as well as the property for the Roanoke, Virginia garden center. Another garden store was added in Beckley, West Virginia in 2001. In 2005, the company added Greenbrier Seed Company to its family and the brand Hort Couture™ Plants was developed in June of 2007. We have been blessed with great people, a true passion for horticulture and wonderful business relationships that have made it all possible.
